KING EDWARD’S CRUISE

POLITICAL SIGNIFICANCE.

A BALKAN VIEW. •riress Association Electric Teleeranh —Copyright LONDON, Saturday. The "News Chronicle” says that from one end of the Balkans to the other, political significance is now being attached to King fedward’s cruise. Since leaving England he has seen King George of Greece and the Premier, General Metaxas; Kemal Ataturk, the Turkish President; King Boris of Bulgaria; Prince Paul of Yugoslavia; President Miklas and Dr. Schuschnigg, of Austria; and the Hungarian Foreign Minister. The fact that the King’s voyage was planned purely for a holiday has done nothing to stop the flowing tide of speculation and the consequent influence on opinion and policies in other countries. The King’s journey is being interpreted abroad as a move in British policy. It is believed that the visit has done much to restore confidence in Britain.

The "Daily Telegraph’s” Vienna correspondent understands that King Edward has decided to prolong his visit until Monday, and continue , treatment from Dr. Neumann.

After interview with the Chancellor, Dr. Schuschnigg, the King took luncheon with several leading Austrian political personalities, and large crowds cheered him as he was returning to his hotel. Later he drove to Dr. Neumann’s surgery to receive treatment, and then, after attending the opera, he visited the Renaissance Bar, liis favourite Viennese night club, where he called for a number of songs from the Hungarian Gipsy Orchestra, and shook hands with the leader. As he left the audience rose and applauded. The bar manager of the Renaissance Bar placed a bronge plaque over the table at which King Edward dined.
