DAMAGED BY FIRE
UNOCCUPIED HOUSE. BRIGADE WORK IN SNOW. A call was received by the Fire Brigade, at. 2.30 a.m. to-day by street alarm from the corner of Pownall and Cornwall Streets to a fire at 99 Cornwall Street. The property was a ten-roomed house of one floor, owned by J. B. Rue, and was unoccupied. Both machines, with the 1 . Superintendent and ten men, turned out, and were quickly on the scene. The motor pump was immediately got going from the street mains, and with two deliveries the fire was soon under control. When the brigade arrived the house was alight in every room, and flames were issuing from the roof. It had evidently been oh fire some time. The house was practically burnt down. Soon after the brigade arrived it started to snow, which fell for about an hour, and it was estimated that there was an inch and a half of snow on the ground. A south-westerly breeze was blowing, the brigade working and cleaning up after the fire was out, in very cold conditions. The property was insured, but the amount is not available.
