TASMANIAN HURRICANE

TRAIL OF DAMAGE. ((Received Monday, 10.10 a.m.) HOBART, This Day. A hurricane swept along the coast from Wynward to Burnie, leaving a trail of damage. Trees were uprooted, fences levelled and buildings unroofed. The sea was running very high and a column of water whipped into the air and swept on to the football field at Burnie, where footballers had to lie on the ground in the face of the gale. A wireless mast, 110 feet high, crashed in three pieces. Steel supports, five inches thick at the base, were bent like nails.
