LONDON! Thursday. At the Melbury tennis tournament, in the. quarter-finals, Malfroy defeated Nigel, Sharpe, 6/2, 6/4. , Miss Round defeated Mrs Whittingstall, 6/1, 6/4. HOPMAN DEFEATED. ROME, Thursday. At the Italian tennis championships, Cancpele, a young Italian, defeated H. Hopman, Australia, 6/4, 4/6, 6/3’, 3/6, 6/3.
The Australian Davis Cup players, who practised for the first- time to-day, play at Monte Carlo on'SGth and 30th April, but only in the doubles and mixed doubles. They , will then proceed direct to Eastbourne for the Davis Cup tie against New Zealand.
