AUSTRALIAN ELECTIONS

A NEW PARTY. .SYDNEY, Friday. Nominations State election on lltli May closed "yesterday. Elovei/ members were returned unopposed, comprising five members of the United Australian Party, four of the United Country Party and two of the Labour Party. They include the Minister of Transport, Mr Bruxncr, and the Minister of Education, Mr Drummond. There are 213 candidates, compared with 302 in 1932, and as eleven have been returned unopposed, contests take place in seventy-nine electorates. A number of prospective Communist Party candidates were withdrawn at the last minute.

A new party cabled tho Centre Movement, led by Mr Eric Campbell, Leader of the New Guard, has nominated five candidates. The Douglas Credit Party has one candidate, who is contesting Croydon, the seat held by the Premier, Mr B. S. Stevens.

The Premier, Mr Forgan Smith, in his policy speech, said it would be the policy of tho Government progressively to roduco unemployment relief work and place men on full time jobs; also to reduce taxation as employment increased.
