RUGBY LEAGUE. ANGLO-FRENCH MATCH. (Received Wednesday, 9.50 a.m.) LONDON, Tuesday. The French Rugby League has accepted the invitation of the English League to send a" fully representative international side to oppose England at Headingly on 6tli May, on the occasion of the King’s Jubilee. •

RUGBY UNION. A meeting of the Wairarapa Rugby Union was held in Carterton last night, Mr W. G. Lamb presiding. All members were present. The chairman welcomed the new members and the return of Mr A. E. Freeman to the committee.

Consideration of a letter from the Wairarapa High School asking for a secondary school competition was held over, the Masterton delegates being requested to wait upon the Principal. A letter from the North Auckland Rugby Union, asking for a match ■with Wairarapa, was left to the delegates at the New Zealand Rugby Union annual meeting. A deputation of the Referees’ Association waited on the Management Committee, and stated that its association had decided that it could not agree to act on the Appointment Board. It was stated that 'either the appointment of referees must be made by the Referees’ Association or by the Rugby Union. The union decided that its members on the board bo asked .to make the appointments for the coming season.

Nomination of teams will close on Saturday next with the secretary.

RED STAR v. PIRATES.

Wickham, Dorward; forwards, J. Gilroy, F. Morgan. If G. Keeble can make tho trip he will go into the back row ot‘ the scrum. Tho Red Star team will be picked from the following players, after training to-night at the Boxing Hall, at 7 o’clock:—M. Howard, G. Neil, W. Peterson, R. Johnson, B. Carrig, N. Byers, T. McCord, D. The junior game, Red Star v. Masterton juniors, on Saturday will be controlled'by Mr 11. Rayner.

OLD BOYS’ CLUB.

MATCHES ON EASTER MONDAY.

On Easter Monday a senior grade Rugby match will be played at Masterton between the Old Boys and Hutt teams, starting at 2.45 pan. Two cur-tain-raisers will be played, Old Boys v. Opaki juniors and Old Boys v. High School thirds. Both these- games will start at 1.15 p.m. The charge for admission is 6d.

On Easter Monday a Wairarapa senior Soccer team will visit the Hutt and play a Hutt side. The following players have been selected: —Naneartow, E. Grey, R. Bell, A. Bell, James Bell, Cruickshanks, J. Grant, G. Longworth, Balfour, T. Bell, Robertson, T. Longworth. Stratton, Ward, Leighton, Brewster, T. James. Any player unable to mako the trip is requested to communicate with Mr J. Walker, ’phone 1687.

In welcoming tho new members to tho Wairarapa Rugby Union Management Committee last evening the chairman (Mr W. G. Lamb) mentioned that four members of the Ranfurly Shield team were now members of tho Management Committee —viz.. Messrs Q. Donald. K. Fairbrother, L. Roach and M. McGregor.
