CHINESE REDS
A BITTER CAMPAIGN - } AN ELUSIVE LEADER, Press Association Electric Telegraph—Copyright SHANGHAI, Friday. Chiang Kai Shelc is to-day waging a bitter and most difficult anti-Red campaign against the remnants of forces which are operating in the provinces of Kweichow and Hunan under the notorious leader, Ilolung, directed by Soviet agents. All efforts to engage him in a decisive battle have been futile since the Reds are continually moving through mountainous territory. However, Chiang’s forces drove the attacking force towards Szechwan, several heavy engagements resulting in the death of the notorious leader, Chutes, whose troops were responsible for the capture of the missionaries, Messrs Ilayman and Bosshardt, whose fate is still unknown.
So long as the Reds continue their dodging tactics there is little possibility of a quick termination of the present campaign.
