Nine squadrons of the Royal Air Force are now flying entirely and with satisfactory results on spirit derived from the carbonisation of British coal.
Progress is also being made in Britain with compression ignition engines and the world record altitude for an aeroplane with a heavy oil engine,. 28,000 feet, was established by a British aeroplane last May. ■*
