SPECTACULAR FIRE

BUSINESS BUILDING GUTTED SYDNEY, Saturday. A spectacular fire occurred in the city this morning. The six-storeyed building of Bloch, Gerber and Company, wholesale rvireless and electrical distributors, was ablaze from top to bottom, and was gutted. Stock valued at £35,000 was destroyed. The building was known as Hard-, wicke House and is situated in York: Street. The damage is conservatively, estimated at beyond £50,000. The fire was the biggest in the metropolitan: area for two years. One hundred and fifty firemen from 14 fire stations were, engaged in fighting the flames, which' spread with amazing rapidity. Of the six floors the second, fourth, fifth and sixth were burnt out. Minor damage was done on the other floors.
