LATE MRS F. J. HUNN
MEMORIAL TABLET UNVEILED,
AN IMPRESSIVE SERVICE,
An impressive service was held at St. Matthew’s Church yesterday morning, when, in the presence of a large congregation, the vicar, the Rev. E. J. Rich, unveiled a memorial tablet, erected by parishioners in memory of Mrs F. J. Hunn. The tablet bears the words: “To the glory of God and in loving memory of Annie Huhn, wife of F. J. Hunn, for many years organist and worker in this Church. Died 4tli November, 1934. ‘Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life The hymns, prayers and lesson wore all appropriate to the occasion, and the choir rendered very beautifully the anthem, “The Radiant Morn,” which was a favourite anthem of Mrs Hunn’s. The vicar preached from the text engraved on the tablet. In the course of his sermon he said that faithfulness was the hallmark of a living religion. The strength of a church was not to be reckoned by material possessions, but by the faithfulness of its members. In every age such faithful ones had been found whose discipleship involved the consecration of all their talents. In a notable degree faithfulness was characteristic of Mrs Hunn. All her life she had been connected with the parish. Nothing was outside the range of her interests. No call ever passed unheeded. To her official duties as organist she brought gifts, consecrated by the spirit of reverence and of worship, which made her portion of the service a joy and inspiration to all. For those who knew her best it w.as the beauty of her character that counted for most. It was good to know her, and life was sweeter and happier because for a little while she passed their wav. She always found the good in all. 'Quiet, unobtrusive, helpful, greatly loved, the influence of her life and character was like the leaven of which the Saviour spoke. “May the faithfulness we honour today be for each one an inspiration; may we tod win that crown of life which is ever the reward of faithful service,” said Mr Rich.
