LUNCHEON DAY

LEAGUE OF NATIONS UNION.

MASTERTON BRANCH. Under the auspices of the Masterton branch of the League of Nations Union a luncheon was held in Hugo and Shearer’s Rooms to-day to which were invited members of other organisations. In addition to a large attendance of members of the Union the Optimist Club, Rotary Club and W.C.T.U. were well represented. The Rev. E. J. Rich presided and introduced the chief guest and speakei, the Rev. 11. Manihera, of Greytown, who gave a most interesting address on “Maori Lore and Customs.” Mr Rich said that the League of Nations Union did exist for the purpose of studying the viewpoint of the various nations and a lot could be learned in this direction from the old customs of the Maori race.

The speaker, Mr Manihera, gave a delightful short talk on interesting customs of his ancestors which he said were very little changed to-day,, particularly amongst the older Maoris. Hedescribed some of the . customs . and lore not usually found in the written records. Mr Manihera. was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his excellent talk.
