WAIRARAPA COMPETITION. NOMADS BEAT MASTERTON. Some splendidly contested games were witnessed in the Drill Hall on Saturday night when the final of . the Wairarapa Badminton Association’s competition was decided between the Nomads and Masterton Clubs. Nomads won by 6,10 games to 2 and 326 points to 266, but the games were far more evenly and keenly contested than the final margin would indicate. There was a fairly large attendance of the public and the standard of play was high. " The following are the detail results, Masterton players mentioned first in everv case: — Ladies’ Doubles—Misses M. Beetham and A. Beetham beat Mrs Prior and’ Miss J. Beetham, 21/1; Misses Hoskmg and Daniell lost to Miss Fleming and Mrs Hodder, 20/24; Mesdames Beetham and Jordan lost to Mesdames Daniell and Major, 13/21. Men’s Doubles.—Forsyth and 0 Connor lost to Edwards and N. Miller, 35/40; Logan and Cook lost to Hodder and Major, 16/30; Payton and Greer lost to Collins and T. Miller, 23/43. Mixed Doubles. —Logan arid Miss M. Beetham lost to Hodder and Miss Fleming, 26/30; O’Connor and Miss A. Beetham lost to N. Miller and Mis Prior, 19/30; Cook and Miss Hoskmg lost to Edwards and Mrs Major, 14/30; Forsyth and Miss J. Daniell lost to Collins and Miss J. Beetham, 23/32; ton and Mrs Beetham beat Major and Mrs Hodder, 40/35; Greer and Mrs Jordan lost to T. Miller and Mrs Daniell, 16/30. In presenting the Wairarapa Association’s handsome challenge cup to Mr E. M. Hodder, captain of the winning team, the president of the association, Mr H. M. A. Major, congratulated the Nomads Club on their success and referred to the interest taken and encouragement given to badminton in the Wairarapa by Mr Hodder. Replying on behalf of his club Mr Hodder said they were very pleased to be the first winners of such a fine cup very generously presented by Mr Major. He trusted that the existence of the cup would prove of great benefit to the game in the district and would be the means of promoting increased interest in the sport among both players and the public.
