MILLIONTH CASE. GIVEN TO LORD RUTHERFORD. LONDON, Friday. There Avas a pleasant ceremony in the Ncav Zealand Office, Avhen Sir James Parr, in the presence of a number of leading NeAv Zealanders, on behalf of Nelson fruit grorvers, presented the season’s millionth case of apples shipped from Nelson to Lord Rutherford, Avhom Sir James described as Nelson’s most distinguished §on. Lord Rutherford, in acknoAvledging the gift, described the early struggles of Nelson fruit groAvers against soil troubles and insect pests, and paid a Avann tribute to the CaAvthron Institute and Professor Easterfiold, Avhose efforts had resulted in Nelson groAving the finest apples. It Avas a splendid example of the good effects of applying science to agriculture. ■ Lord Rutherford is sending the lid of the millionth case to a Nelson boy, Avho fonvarded ss, requesting a part of the case.
