Mr Murdoch Ross, of Martinborougli, celebrated his 90th birthday on Tuesday.
Mr W. R. Levin, of Orui Station, Masterton, has been appointed an officer under the Fisheries Act in respect to the Wellington Acclimatisation District.
The death occurred at Greytown on Wednesday of Mrs Mary Smith, Avife of Mr William Smith, late of Pahautanui, and mother of Mrs J. Feast, of Greytown, at the age of 80 years. Mr and Mrs J. Thompson, of Morison’s Bush, who were at one time settlers in the Carterton district, celebrated their golden wedding on Thursday. There were many guests present from all parts of the district at a function in the evening, and an exceedingly happy time was spent. The death occurred at Napier yesterday of Mrs Marion Gahvey, AvidoAV of the late Mr W. H. L. Gahvey, al one time manager of the Bank of NeAV South Wales in Masterton. The funeral Avill take place at the Masterton Cemetery to-morroAv at 1.30 pan. Mr E. Hollis, Wairarapa and Palmerston North representative for Messrs Briscoe, E. W. Mills and Co., Ltd., hardAvare merchants, Wellington, has received Avord of his appointment as assistant-manager of the Wellington branch. Mr Hollis has been resident in Masterton for the past eleven years and Avill take up his neAV duties early in August. Mr J. B. Carrutliers has been appointed to fill Mr Hollis’s position.
A very pleasant afternoon Avas held in the Eketahuna Anglican Sunday School when members of the Eketahuna Golf Club and friends assembled to farAvell Mrs J. E. Nicholson avlio is leaving to reside in Wellington. Vocal solos Averc rendered by Misses M. Wilson, J. Kensington and M. Smith Avhicli Avere heartily applauded. A potatospearing competition Avas Avon by Mrs Nicholson. Miss N. Greatliead, in the absence of the club captain, Miss Loavcs, presented Mrs Nicholson Avith a gift as a small appreciation of the Avork she had done for the club, especially during her term as secretary. She expressed the regret all present felt at Mrs Nicholson’s departure. Musical honours Avere accorded Mrs Nicholson who briefly responded.
