MASTERTON CLUB’S YEAR. ANNUAL REPORT. ‘‘ In presenting the thirty-sixth. . annual report and balance sheet, your committee regrets having to record that during the year the club has lost by death four highly respected members in the late Messrs H. C. L. Robinson, C. J. Larsen, G. Gordon and R. A. Nicholls, ” states the Masterton Bowling Club’s annual report. “The financial position is sound, the accounts disclosing a credit balance of £34 10s lid, and we are once more indebted to those members who turn up year after year to prepare the greens for the coming season. To those gentlemen we express grateful thanks and appreciation. Keen interest was taken in the games for the Bell Shield and Mu trie Cup, between our club and the Park, and the games were watched by large numbers of spectators from both clubs. At the end of the season the Park Club held the Mutrie Cup, Messrs P. Southey and D. Lett, and your club hold the Bell Shield, Messrs W. Christian, E. Reid, W. Wilkinson and 11. M. Morton. In addition to our club competitions some very close and interesting games were played for the Wall Cup. The following are the winners of club competitions: Champion singles, Y. L. Taylor; champion pairs, G. Stewart and A. M. Henderson; champion fours, A. Welch, L. Dorset, J. L. Hughes and J. Maxwell; handicap singles, W. Christian; colts’ singles, W. Christian'; progressive fours, A Welch, Rev. Father Moore, L. Dorset and H. M. Morton; Wall Cup, W. Christian, A. O. Jones, G. Hayne and W. Wilkinson; Boxing Day pairs tournament, leads, F. Haycraft; skips, L. Bissell. In addition to the Booth Cup and Shield games, matches were played between the various clubs in the district, and were enjoyed by all. An invitation to visit the Eastbourne Club had to be abandoned owing to insufficient members being able to make the trip. Our greens played particularly well during the season, and this was due to a large extent to the amount of time and care put in by our hon. green superintendent, Mr E. W. Nielsen, to whom we extend our thanks and appreciation. Our thanks are duo to anonymous (two) and Mr H. B. Thomas for cash donations and trophies, Mr Manion, our green-keeper, Mrs Bartosh, our caterer, and to all those members who have given willing service to the clubin many ways. This report would not be complete without reference to the loss the Wairarapa Bowling Centre has sustained in the death of Mr Frank Tyler, who was highly esteemed by all bowlers in the district. In conclusion, I desire to convey my personal thanks to the executive officers of the club for their loyal support and co-operation during my term of office. For and on behalf of the committee, (Sgd.) E. J. Welch, president.” Notice of motion has been given, proposed by Mr G. Hayne and seconded by Mr A. 0. Jones, “that the colour of the club blazers be altered.”
