Because an aeroplane, advertising a well-known firm, flew over the Mersey tunnel entrance during the King’s speech, the firm, while announcing that their instructions had miscarried, gave the Lord Mayor of Liverpool £SOOO for charities as an atonement for an incident detracting from the impressiveness of the ceremony.
