The death in England of Dr. Arthur E. Marsack, formerly a prominent practitioner in Auckland, is reported in a Press Association message from that city. According to a cable Senor Getulio , Vargas, Provisional President of zil, was elected first constitutional President of the second Brazilian Republic on Tuesday. A Dunedin Press Association telegram reports that the death occurred yesterday of Mr Henry Shakespeare Feemvick, aged 73 years, a well known sharebroker in that city. In recognition of his ,interest and assistance Mr C. E. Daniell was unanimously elected to the office of patron of the Masterton Beautifying Society at the annual meeting last night. The late Hon. Walter Bennett, member of the Legislative Assembly of New South Wales, whose death occurred in Sydney on Monday, was born in Carterton. Mr Bennett’s father was one of Carterton’s best known settlers and established the first newspaper in the town, the “Wairarapa Valley Guardian. ’ ’

At the annual meeting of the Masterton Beautifying Society last night a motion of condolence was passed with the family of the late Mr James Allan, who was an enthusiastic member of the society. The president, Dr. Archer Hosking, said the late Mr Allan was a faithful member of the society and a good citizen. All deeply regretted liis passing. The funeral of the late Mr O. J. Percy, of Te Ore Ore, which took place at Masterton yesterday afternoon was largely attended by settlers from all parts of the district. Requiem Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick’s Churelji in the morning by Father N. MooijjL. the hymns being sung by the choir. Father Moore referred to A Percy, family’s long association the church, the organ having been presented by them. At the funeral in the afternoon, Father Moore conducted the service at the residence and also at the graveside. Many very beautiful wreaths were received. The pallbearers were Messrs Clarence, Colin, W. and J. Percy, R. Smith.and J. Donovan, all nephews of the late Mr Percy.
