Mrs H. Davis, of England, is the guest of Mrs J.. V. Gordon, Pownall Street, Masterton. Mr C. E. Daniell, of Masterton, left to-day on a holiday visit to Havelock North.

The death occurred at Oliakune of Mr George Petersen, advance agent for Wirth’s Circus. Deceased was well known in Masterton.

A Christchurch Press message announces the death of Sir Arthur Dudley Dobson, aged 90. He was a pioneer explorer, surveyor and engineer, and one of the best known figures in Canterbury. The death occurred at Palmerston North of Mr Jens Peter Petersen, formerly of the Wairarapa. Mr George Petersen, of Palmerston North, who resided in Masterton some years ago, is a son. Deceased wasc 77 years of age.

Mr T. C. Wickens, who has been for many years a member of the Masterton Post Office staff, has been transferred to Hawera. Mr Wickens was formerly a Wairarapa representative footballer, being for years a valued member of the Red Star Club, and is to-day a well known golf player. A Press Association message from Gisborne records the death of Captain Arthur Dawson Clirisp, aged 6(5, who was formerly connected with the Union Company’s service. He was master of several coastal and intercolonial vessels. He retired from the sea twenty years ago on account of ill health.

The friends of Mr and Mrs D. W. Grimwood, 400 Queen Street, will regret to learn of the death of their younger son Lionel, which occurred at the residence last night at the age of 34 years, after a long illness. The funeral will leave the residence at 3 p.m., to-morrow (Tuesday), for the Masterton Cemetery.

Air and Mrs C. M. P>owden left Masterton to-day for Wellington. They will sail from that nort by the Makura to-morrow for Sydney, the first stage of a business and holiday trip to Great Britain, the Continent and America. They are to join the Jervois Bay at Sydney for the voyage Home by the Suez Canal route.

A London cable states that Captain S. Bonham Carter has been appointed to command 11.M.5. Sussex, on which Prince George will travel to Australia. Captain Carter was awarded the D.S.O. for bravery at Zeebrugge, where lie commanded the blockship Intrepid, after exploding which he escaped on a raft and floated on the canal till rescued by a motor launch. The funeral of Mr A. McLaifchlan took place yesterday afternoon at the Masterton Cemetery and was very largely attended. Services were conducted at the residence and at the graveside by the Rev. R. Dickie and many beautiful floral tributes were received. The pall-bearers were Messrs Huddle and Wingate, representing the Lansdowne Church, and Messrs C. C. Mc.Lauchlan, A. Johnson, A. Olson and F. Clark.

The wedding was solemnised at St. Augustin’s Church, Petone, of Margaret, daughter of Mr and Mrs G. D. KlcEwen, of Petone, to Mr Harvey Middleton Simpson, son of Mr and Airs A. M. Simpson, of Rongokokako. The bride was attended by two matrons of honour, Kirs Ewart Selman and Kirs Raynor Goddard. The bridegroom was attended by Mr G. Martvn Renner, and Mr B. KlcEwen, brother of the bride, was groomsman.
