UNEMPLOYMENT.
Dissatisfaction with the policy in operation in connection with unemployment in New Zealand is evident from one end of the Dominion to the other. While the Government has tens of thousands of pounds to Avaste on useless commissions, Waitangi celebrations, etc., it cannot find means or money whereby relief workers may be helped into channels of more regu-
lar and better-paid employment. The taxpayer is “sick and tired” of putting his hand into his pocket and finding money to waste on unemployment schemes, hardly one of which has produced results compatible with the amount of money spent thereon. A Government which makes repudiation and Socialism its main planks, however, cannot be expected to handle the unemployment problem as it should be. Until some sane policy is formulated in connection with unemployment, there is little hope of the Dominion getting back to normal conditions.
