CASINO TOURNAMENT,

At Newport, Rhode Island, F. X. Shields (U.S.A.) qualified for the semifinal by defeating Frank Parker (U.S.A.), 2/6, 6/4, 6/4, 7/5. Vines defeated Stoeffen by default. Allison (U.S.A.) defeated Gledhill (U.S.A.), 3/6, 5/7, 6/4, 6/1, 6/0, and Sutter (U.S.A.) defeated Mangin (U.S.A.), 6/4, 6/2, 7/5. G. M. Loss . (U.S.A.) and Lester Stoffen (U.S.A.) defeated F. J. Perry and Wilde (England), 6/2, 6/2. Perry and Wilde had advanced to the quarter finals with a 7/5, 6/2 victory ovor Bryan Grant and Karl Kamarath (United States). VINES DEFEATED. (Received Saturday, 9.10 a.m.) NEWPORT, Friday. Vines, who has won the Casino singles championship in the past two years, was defeated to-day by Shields, 6/2, 6/4, 6/4, in the semi-finals. Shields widely outplayed Vines.

Michell (England), 6/1, 6/2; Miss Sarah Palfrey (U.S.A.T defeated Mrs A. J. Lamme, jun. (Rye, N.Y.), 6/0, 6/2; Miss Mary Ileeley (England) defeated the Baroness Maud Levi (New York), 6/4, 7/5; Miss Nuthall (England) defeated Miss Caroline Babcock (Los Angeles). 6/4, 6/4; Miss Josephine Cruickshan’.
