KINDERGARTEN

TERM BREAK-UP. ENJOYABLE AFTERNOON. Yesterday afternoon St. Mattlidw’s Parish Hall was a scene of childish activity and excitement, when the tiny pupils of Misses E. Stubbings and S. Frater’s kindergarten school, gave an afternoon to their parents and friends. A splendid display of children’s handwork, writing and figures was exhibited, and exclamations of surprise were uttered at the wonderful progress made. At the tinkle of the familiar school bell the little ones promptly collected on the stage, and as the curtain rose there was depicted a nursery scene of eager, smiling children playing in groups with their numerous school toys of instruction and amusement. Then followed a well-arranged programme of play-work; a short dialogue, entitled “Nursery Weather,” was very prettily acted by Mona Marsden, Lola Saunders and Lindsay Ross. Great" credit must be given to little Nola Saunders, who very capably stepped into the place of another little girl, who was taken ill.

Then followed a group of nursery rhymes by all the children, Gordon Brass being soloist; recitation by Bill Broad and Kevan Redman; action song by Mona Marsden, Nola Saunders, Bruce Mclntyre, Lindsay Ross and Bill Broad; action recitation by Shirley Masters, Bill Broad and Bob Bradley; action song by Nola. Marsden, followed by a recitation by Nola Saunders; group dancing and farmyard drill completed a most enjoyable children’s programme. Little John Rich caused some amusement by preferring mother’s lap to the publicity of the stage. The afternoon closed by the teachers entertaining the parents to a delicious afternoon tea.
