OBITUARY

MR. S. BOLTON. The death occurred 'suddenly yesterday of a prominent North Wairarapa farmer, Mr Samuel t Bolton, J.P., of “Oete,” Pahiatua. Mr Bolton took up his residence at i “Oete” in 1893, and since then had associated himself with many local bodies and institutions, including the Wairarapa Hospital Board, the Tararua Power Board and the Pahiatua County Council, of which he was chairman. Mr Bolton held the rank of major, and formerly commanded the Second Regiment (Wellington) Mounted Rifles. Mrs Albert Beetliam, Mrs Trevor Beetham and Mrs Harold Beetliam, of Masterton, are daughters of the late Mr Bolton, and they will have the sympathy of a large circle of friends throughout the Wairarapa in their sad bereavement.

MR. J. M. MORRIS. The news of the death of Mr John McKay Morris, which occurred at the Masterton Hospital this morning, will be received with regret by a wide circle of friends. Deceased, who had not enjoyed the best of health for some few months, suffered a stroke early this week which resulted in his death as stated. The late Mr Morris was born at Sawyer’s Bay, Dunedin, 65 years ago, and at an early age he went to Haunui, Eketahuna, where he took up farming pursuits, and after clearing the land of virgin bush remained there for thirty years. He then came to Masterton, where he has been a taxi proprietor for fifteen years. The late Mr Morris was a man of strong and upright character, always ready to do a fellow man a good turn. He acted on the “Waterfalls” School Committee, Eketahuna, and after coming to Masterton served for a short time on the Lansdowne School Committee. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 238. He is survived by a wife and two daughters who will have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their sad bereavement. Deceased is also survived by two brothers, Mr Robert Morris, Hawke’s Bay, and Mr William Morris, Te Awamutu, and three sisters, Mrs H. Burling, Tolioroa, Auckland, Mrs C. McLeod and Mrs E. E. Robinson, Palmerston North. The funeral will take place on Monday and will leave the residence, 27 Roberts Road, Lansdowne, at 2.30 p.m.
