A cable states that in California a State amendment legalising pari-mutuel betting on horse races appears to be carried by a safe majority. A London cable states that while at the Newmarket races on Tuesday his Majesty the King saw two events won by his own horses. The Hare Park Handicap was won by Foxetra, and the Rottisham Stakes by The Abbott. The Royal victories were extremely popular.
After the field in the Rangiotu Plates, at the Manawatu Hunt. Club races yesterday had traversed three furlongs Aweketia and Count 'Roussillon fell. B. Brown, rider of the former, had one of his legs broken and was sent to hospital.
