GOVERNOR-GENERAL
TOUR OF WAIRARAPA. Yesterday the 'Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, and Lady Bledisloe, had a busy day in the Wairarapa. They made official calls at Pahiatua, Woodville and Eketahuna. At Eketahuna the viceregal party was welcomed at a reception in the grounds of Mr. A. H. Herbert. Last night Their Excellencies arrived at Masterton and stayed at the Midland Hotel. This morning they left Masterton for IGreytown. GREYTOWN EN FETE. iGreytown was en fete this morning for the visit of the Governor-General, 'Lord Bledisloe and Lady Bledisloe. The town was .gaily decorated with bunting and ferns and flags were down from .many of the buildings. On arrival about 11 o’clock, Their Excellencies inspected the Boy Scout and Girl Guide guard of honour. Before entering the Town Hall they were given a typical native welcome. There was a large attendance in the Town Hall, and on the stage were the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr and Mrs 11. T .Rees, members of the Borough Council, and other local bodies and representative citizens and their wives. In extending a welcome to the distinguished visitors, the Mayor, (Mr Rees, said that Grevtown had been named after a former New Zealand Governor, Sir George Grey, and that it was SO years since the first immigrants settled in Grcytown.
In his reply, the Governor-General spoko on the lines of his addresses in other towns visited on his present tour. He stressed the need for the co-opera-tion of all concerned to ensure the welfare of the whole country.
Before leaving Grcytown, Their Excellencies shook hands with the inmates of the Buchanan Home, and were given rousing cheers as they left the town.
