UNEMPLOYMENT
SINGLE MEN’S CAMPS. About fifty men from the Masterton County Council’s unemployment camps have returned to their homes for the Christmas holidays. They will start work again in the camps on 9th .January. Forty men are now resident in Blairlogic Camp, the Council having decided, at the request of the men, to keep one camp open during the holidays. and close the other three. Caretakers have been placed in charge of these camps for the holiday period. The Council has made special -arrangements for catering at Blairlogic during the festive season.
The Masterton County Clerk (Mr .1. C. D. Mackley) states that the men resident at Blairlogic, through their foreman, Mr E. L. Anderson, had asked him to publicly thank the members of the Women’s National Welfare League for their thoughtful and most generous action in providing them with two large Christmas cakes, which were delivered on Thursday by Mrs Hugh Morrison. “Mr Anderson assured me,” said Mr Mackley, “that the men are most grateful for the consideration extended to them, and they reciprocate the season's greetings received from the members of the League.”
