The price of gold in London yesterday was £6/3/5. A reminder is given of the programme which will be played by the Masterton Municipal Band (weather permitting) in the Park to-niglit at < o’clock. There will be no collection. During the holiday season the- Wairarapa Automobile Association is establishing an information bureau in Masterton, in a shop recently occupied bj Messrs Barr and Harman, opposite the Post Office. Full particulars will be available as to roads, holiday tours, car insurance, membership l , etc. The bureau will be open this afternoon, and all day to-morrow, and on Saturday and during certain hours next ;\eek until further notice. A large gathering of residents and visitors were present at the opening of the newly-formed clay tennis courts on Saturday at Rangitunja. The president, Mr E. T. Wilton, took the opportunity to thank all who had made possible the completion of the work. Mrs Wilton played the first, ball and declared the courts open, after which mixed doubles were engaged in. the lady members of the club provided an excellent afternoon tea which was served in the new hall adjacent.

Systematic coaching has done much to improve the standard of tennis in England in recent years, according to Mr C. E. Malfroy, of Wellington, who returned by the Rangitata. yesteidaj • Mr Malfiroy was at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, for three years, and performed with considerable success in open tournaments. He gained his tennis ‘‘Blue” at Cambridge, and was later captain of the tennis team. The annual school concert and prizegiving in connection with the Alfrcdton School was largely attended. Credit is due to Mr Wright and Miss Buckley for the success of the evening. Choruses, dialogues, fancy dancing and other items were pleasingly-performed by the school children, who 1 received well merited applause; The programme was varied by the assistance of adult performers, who added considerably 1o the evening’s enjoyment. Two sharp earthquake jolts were experienced in Dannevirke on Tuesday evening, the first before G o ’clock and the other about 7.45 o’clock. The Rev. J.
