OPTIMISM FADING. SHANGHAI, Wednesday. Two- armoured trains have left Newcb\vang carrying British and Japanese officials, who are proceeding to Pan-sli-aii, where it is hoped to establish contact with the bandits who aTe holding Airs Aluriel Pawley and Air diaries Corkran captive. Optimism as to the prospects of rescuing them is gradually fading, owing to inability to make direct- contact with their captors.
