ART UNION DRAWING
A CONSPIRACY CHARGE. BRISBANE, Wednesday. A stir was caused by an alleged attempt to tamper with the marbles at this week’s drawing of the Golden Casket Art Union, the lirs-t prize vvherefor was £6OOO. Two arrests have been made —Donald Mackay, acting-accountant to the Golden Casket Art Union, and William Evans, a traveller.. They arc- charged with conspiracy to- defraud the State lottery and were remanded. The police informed the Cvurt that Evans' son was employed at the Art Union drawing, and had a marble concealed in his hand, the numbers whereon corresponded to a ticket purchased by Evans at Ipswich. The boy was just about to plunge his hand into the barrel for the drawing, when he- was stopped. The Queensland Government announces that in future all drawings will be -carried out with a mechanical gripping device, similar to that used in the NewSouth Wales lottery.
