COSY THEATRE. “RIDERS OF THE PURPLE SAGE.” Romance and action, with plenty of thrills, are presented in ‘ ‘ Riders of the Purple Sage,” which is to be shown again at the Cosy Theatre this evening. From a photographic standpoint also, th'e picture is declared to be one of the most beautiful ever filmed. George O’Brien, in the role of Lassiter, the heroic stranger, has the finest role of his career; Marguerite Churchill is beautiful and convincing as Jane Withersteen, owner of the historic ranch that Lassiter saves from the depredations of Noah Beery, who plays the part of a villain whom it is a pleasure to hiss. The story is one of the most popular from the prolific pen of Zane Grey. There are two reasons for the photographic beauty of “Riders of the Purple Sage,” it is pointed out. The first, and most important, is that th,e picture was photographed entirely in the scenic wonderland of north-central Arizona, land of red rock cliffs, purple mountains, azure sky and vast distances. Another and more technical reason is that a special type of film was used. Seats may be reserved at Vare’s, ’phone 1333. THE REGENT. “STRANGERS MAY KISS.” In “Strangers May Kiss,” which is showing at the Regent this evening, Miss Norma Shearer is said to score her greatest triumph to date. Overseas papers refer to it as “the best piece of work she has contributed to the screen.” Robert Montgomery, the leading man, is also credited with achieving a triumph, and runs Miss Shearer very close for first honours. The way in which Norma Shearer wears her exquisite clothes is an art in itself, which will win the admiration of men as well as women. A more brilliant supporting cast would be hard to find and includes such well known favourites as Neil Hamilton, Hedda Hopper, Hale Hamilton, and Marjorie Rambeau. “'Strangers May Kiss” will be preceded by the latest comedy riot of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, who make merry in “Beau Hunks.” Seats may be reserved at Vare’s, ’phone 1333. The box plan for “Mother’s Millions,” commencing on Saturday, is now open at Vare’s.
