GERMAN TARIFFS
AUSTRALIA’S POSITION. (Received Tuesday, 9.13 a.m.) LONDON, Monday. The ‘ ‘ Sun-Herald ’ ’ news service says that as the result of Sir Horace Rumbolu’s (British Ambassador at Berlin), representations, Germany has agreed that her super-tariffs will not apply to Australia.
Finding that smoking is "injuring his health, "Nicotine” wrote to an Auckland journal recently to say he would gladly knock off the habit, but finds he can’t. So he thought that he would see "if any of your numerous readers” could help him. Not one or them has. But really there’s no need for "Nicotine” to abandon his pipe. Nothing so drastic is necessary. Let him discontinue the use of imported tobacco. It’s full of nicotine, and will injure anybody’s health if used habitually. After that this worried correspondent should smoke only New Zealand toasted tobacco. This is the world’s purest, and even if smoked immoderately will do "Nicotine” no more harm than eating his dinner. Toasting also gives this beautiful tobacco its delightful flavour and rare bouquet. There are only four brands manufactured: Riverhead Gold, Navy ('ut No. 3. Cavendish and Cut Plug No. 10. No one need leave off smoking for health reasons so long as the baccy used is New Zealand toasted. But watch out for imitations! There are several on the market. 243
