SHOT HIMSELF
MILLIONAIRE'S END. (Received Tuesday, 9.20 a.m.) NEW YORK, Monday. A message from Rochester states George Eastman, aged / 1 , a multimillionaire, industrialist, inventor and philanthropist, died at his home today. A later message states that Eastman shot himself. He was known all over the world as the genius of the photographic industry, art collector and big game hunter. His benefactions at the time of Ins death passed £1,500,000. ILL-HEALTH FOR MANY YEARS. (Received Tuesday, 11.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, Monday. A Rochester message states that- Dr. Audlev Stewart, in announcing that Mr Eastman had shot himself after putting all his attendants away from the bedside, said that Mr Eastman had left this’ note:—“To my friends: Mv work is done. Why wait?” Dr. Stewart, who had been Mr Eastman’s personal physician for many years, said that while- Mr Eastman had been in ill-health for many years, apparently he had recovered to a degree encouraging to his friends. He was apparently in such a mental state that ho shot iiimself after sending his friends from the room. The moment after they had departed they heard ashot, and returned to find him dead.
