SUNDAY TRAINS

TO AND FROM WAIKARAPA. Although the use made of the. recently inaugurated Sunday trains to and from the Wairarapa. has been quite good, there is a possibility tlmt the trains may be withdrawn in the near future if larger support is not forthcoming from the Wairarapa end. The numbers travelling from Masterton, Carterton, Featherston and other stations in. the Wairarapa by the morning train are considered to be barely sufficient to warrant its running, and although the travelling on the afternoon trains in both directions is invariable very much higher, this does not all come in as part of the Sunday bookings, as these trains are used by week-enders returning home. . The barrier of the Rimutakas has done a great deal to keep the attractions of the Wairarapa district from being as well known as are those of the western coastal route, and the special low fares which the railways have introduced recently, coupled with the addition of Sunday trains to a weekly« service, have undoubtedly caused a forward movement in the district that has done much to counteract bad times in other directions. The popularity of the Wairarapa is increasing, and it remains for the residents of this important district, to do all in their power to retain the maximum transport facilities which the railways now provide. There is t ol k of the possibility of the Wairarapa Sunday trains ceasing to run after Easter.
