PTOMAINE POISONING
NINE PERSONS STRICKEN.
AUCKLAND, This Day
Nine occupants of a house in Point Chevalier became ill last night after tea, and seven were removed to the hospital, suffering from ptomaine poisoning. They are: —-George Lauchlan Dunn, aged 44, blacksmith; James Lauchlan Dunn, aged 21; George Dunn, aged 10; Airs Jessie Richards, aged 36, of New Lynn (these were in a serious condition.) Airs Annie Dunn, aged 44; Doreen Dunn, aged 12; and Miss Clara Neilson, aged 20. Two others, Aiiss S. Dunn and Eric Dunn, were able to remain at home. The family began to feel ill about 7.30, and when Aiiss S. Dunn returned after ten o’clock she found the others in agony, none being able to help the others. She had been slightly affected, but soon recovered. 'She summoned a doctor, who ordered the worst cases to the hospital. Airs Dunn had gone to a euchre tournament, but became 'ill and was taken home about 10.30 p.m., shortly after her daughter had arrived and found the others ill. The condition of all the patients is reported at 9 o’clock to-day as improved.—(P.A.) VICTIMS RECOVERING. AUCKLAND, This Day. All the ptomaine victims are recovering. The household's evening meal consisted mainly of cold pickled pork, part of which had been eaten cold the previous evening, and tongue. Aiiss Sybil Dunn, who was the least affected, ate only a small portion of the pork. When she returned she found the others in agony. She hurried to the telephone, but as many of the local doctors were iattending the Aledical Conference ball she had to make 22 rings before she found a doctor in.— (P.A.)
