WAGE STANDARD
CAUSE OF REDUCTION.
AIELBOURNE, Thursday.
Replying to argument by the Representatives of thirty-seven unions seeking a restoration of the 10-'|fßr cent wage cut, Chief Judge Dcflieridge said:—
“The reduction in the standard of wages in Australia lias been brought about not by the Court, but by the fall in the national wealth. The Court cannot reform the whole world, which is constituted of warring economic elements, each producing what it is fitted to produce, and also striving to produce what it is unfitted to produce, folly of mail in regard to tariffs lias resulted in a grossly unscientific method of distribution of the world’s production. Thus the world is at fault.”
