MASTERTON SHOW

ENTRIES CLOSE ON SATURDAY. The secretary of the Masterton A. and P. Association advises that entries are now coming to hand very freely, and despite the adverse conditions there are plenty of exhibitors willing to face the competition usually to be found at the Masterton Show, where a win is always appreciated. In Shorthorn cattle classes there are gold medals and ribbons for the champion bull and champion cow or lieifcr, also the Buchanan Cup for most points in Shorthorn, Hereford and Polled Angus breeds. The Herefords are usually a large class, and it is expected that several wellknown breeders will compete. In Polled Angus classes there is the Marton Cup for the best group, also the Aberdeen Angus Society’s £5 os for a group of two, two years and upwards. There is also the Burling Cup for most points. In Ayrshire classes there is the Moore Cup for most points. In all purebred classes gold medals and ribbons are awarded to bull, cow or heifer. .Jersey classes are usually strong, a.ud the Nathan Cup is offered here for bestheifer over 12 and under IS months. In Friesian classes the Friesian Society has donated its gold medal for most points. This also is a very strong class, and the usual exhibitors are expected to enter. Milking Shorthorns are also catered for on the same lines as other cattle classes. In grade dairy cattle, there is the Mauriceville Dairy Company’s Cup for pair of heifers. There is also a class for calves open to members of Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Clubs. Another class is open to all except pedigree animals. Mr Petersen has donated cash prizes for the bestgroomed and best-behaved calf from these two classes. There are se\ eral classes for fat cattle. Entries close on January 30th with the secretary, Box 40, Masterton.
