CAUSES TWO DEATHS.

SYDNEY, Friday.

A scorching wind swept Sydney today and sent the temperature to 106 degrees. The city was soon ringed with grass fires, causing a pall of smoke. Two persons died from heat and at least sixty collapsed and received medical attention. •

Even the great Harbour Bridge was affected, the steal expanding and lifting nearly seven inches at the crown.

Thirteen women were rescued from drowning at Manly in the surf. Most of the country towns report temperatures of from 100 to 115 degrees.
