MASTERTON CLUB’S CARNIVAL.

The Masterton Amateur Swimming and Life Saving Club held a most successful carnival at the Dixon Street Baths last night. There was an excellent attendance and the events provided spirited contests. The club ’s popular president, Mr. W. S. L. Dickson, who is on holiday, was not present, this being the first club carnival which he lias not attended. Speaking on behalf of the Club, Mi. D. Welch expressed pleasure at the large attendance. It was very eneourfigjjig to the offcials when the public attended in such gatifying numbers. The ■ dub would be holding another meeting next month, he said, when a number of well-known outside swimmeis would l>o competing. He then presented the winner of the 100 yards, Jack Barnes, with the Brough Cup. Barnes wins this trophy outright, haying secured it for three years in succession. D. Carlyon and G. Yule, both of Featherston, tied f.or the 50 yards -inter-club event, and they will hold the Masterton Club Challenge Cup for six months each. Mr. Welch congratulated the winners on their fine performances.
