AMATEUR ATHLETICS

TO-MORROW’S MEETING. The party of elcA 7 en Canterbury College athletes Avho are to compete at the Masterton Amateur Athletic Club’s gathering at the Park CWal to-morrow, arrived in Masterton yesterday. They were met and subsequently entertained at afternoon tea by three officials of the club, Messrs. G. H. Perry (patron), W. Brady (president) and J. V. Dolan (secretary).

Owing to record entries being received for the 440 yards handicap, this event Avill be run in t.AVO divisions, A and B. Trophies of equal A 7 alue will be awarded to the Avinner of each event. Any person found entering the Park without paying the admission fee will be prosecuted.

The track at the Oval is in first-class order and some fast times should be registered to-morrOAV. The various eA-ents have attracted splendid entries and close, exciting contests should be the order of the day. The first event will commence at 12.30 p.m. The charge for admission Avill be Is.

The club Avill also hold a dance in the Arcade Hall in the evening. The function has been capably organised and promises to be most successful and enjoyable. Music Avill be supplied by Minifie’s Orchestra and the admission charges will be: Men, 2s 6d; ladies, 2s.

As in past years it is anticipated the gathering will be of a high standard. In addition to horse and pony competitions, there will b * sideshows, a baby show and tire brigade competitions. Programmes may be had on application to the secretary, Mr. L. H. Smart.
