SHOW AFFAIRS
CARTERTON SOCIETY. The general committee of the V airarapa P. and A. Society met at Carterton on Saturday, Mr Geo. Hart presiding. A vote of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Messrs. E. L. McLaren ad D. Matliicson, former members of the committee.
The treasurer reported a debit balance of .£397 Ss 3d. The general account was in debt £670 6s 6d and the Kent Street property, £1859 2s 9d. The Hall Account was in credit £ll3l Is, and the deposit account in credit £IOOO. Receipts since last meeting were £67 4s 10d. Accounts amounting to £l2l Is 5d were passed for payment. Mr W. E. Baker, Makino, was accorded a vote of thanks for donating his expenses to the society. It was decided to forward a letter of congratulation to Mr A. B. Martin upon his success in the fat lamb competition on the London market. Messrs. Fitter and Sons were thanked for their attention to the judging of the fat lambs in London. It was decided to call applications for a part-time caretaker for the Showgrounds and Kent Street property at a salary of £52 per annum, under the conditions drawn up by the ground committee. The successful applicant will be given additional work required from time to time on the society’s property. Thp Carterton Band was granted the use of the Showgrounds for drill purposes.
