FEDERAL ELECTION
PREFERENCE VOTES WELL-KNOWN MEMBER BEATEN. Press Association Electric Telegraph Copyright SYDNEY, Monday. The distribution of preferences in the Reid seat was completed to-night, the ILangite, Mr J. A. Gander, winning by 7457 from the anti-Labourite, Mr R. D eb el. It is understood that Mr Gander, who is a billiard marker, expressed his willingness, during the election campaign, to resign the moment Mr Lang desired to enter Federal polities, a move which is believed to be imminent. Thus Mr Lang will be able to contest this safe Labour seat.
Another Lang candidate, Mr 11. P. Lazzarini, learned his fate to-day, when the final distribution of preference votes for the Wcrriwa seat enabled Mr MeNicoll, Country Party candidate, to win by 1557 votes. Mr Lazzarini has represented this constituency for many years. He was an ardent supporter of the Lang plan, and with Mr Beasley played a prominent part in securing the downfall of the Scullin Government.
