STRINGENT CRITICISM
OF LAND COMMISSIONERS. GUILTY OF INCOMPETENCE. (Received Tuesday, 9.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. A protracted investigation _by the Industrial Magistrate (Mr Prior) resulted in stringent criticism of three Commissioners comprising the Western Lands Board whom he declared guilty of misbehaviour and incompetence by refusal or deliberate neglect to carry out the duties of their office. The State Government has decided to dismiss them and appoint the following new Board:—Mr P. M. McGirr, Legislative Councillor and a brother of the Minister for Local Government; Mr T. Watson, surveyor, the Forbes-Lang Plan candidate for Calare at the recent Federal elections, and Mr W. Stagg, secretary of the Returned Soldiers’ League. The term of appointment is for seven years. Mr McGirr, as chairman, will receive £ISOO a year, and the others £IOOO. The announcement of the personnel has caused surprise.
