The engagement is announced of Miss Euphie Tate, only daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Aslcin Tate, Makurutanga, Greytown, to Mr Neil Speedy, third son of Mr and Mrs Bruce Speedy, Ahiaruhe, Carterton.
The engagement is announced of Miss Dorenc Moore, only daughter of Mrs and the late Mr* C. C. Moore, of Masterton, to Mr Frank Beckingsale, only son of Mr and Airs F. H. Beckingsale, of Masterton.
A Wellington Press message advises the death of the Hon. W. Earnshaw, at G a.m. to-day, after a short illness. Deceased was born in Manchester in 1852, and settled in New Zealand in. 1878. Ho was formerly a member of Parliament. He was made a member of the Legislative Council in 1913. Jlev. A. T. Thompson, ALA., 8.D., Commonwealth Secretary of the British and Foreign Bible Society, has returned to Australia. Air Thompson has been on leave of absence for the past six months, most of this time being spent in New Zealand visiting the parishes of Masterton and St. Andrew’s, Christchurch. Flying-Officer J. M. Buekeridge, of Palmerston North, who was recently appointed pilot-instructor to the Wairarapa Aero Club, arrived in Masterton yesterday. Mr Buekeridge, who piloted the Auckland-Wellington air-mail on Christmas Eve, took up his duties to-day.
The many friends of Airs J. F. Fenwick, of Featherston, will regret to learn of her death which occurred at her residence, Kaiwaiwai, last night. The late Airs Fenwick, who took ill only a few hours prior to her death, was well known and highly respected throughout the Wairarapa. She was 65 years of age and had resided in the district all her life. Her husband piedeceased her in 1918 and she is survived by a son, Mr Gordon Fenwick, and a daughter, Mrs Donald Ingley, both of Featherston. The funeral will take place to-morrow. On Christmas Day a marriage of interest to the Alaoris and Europeans of the Wairarapa and Hawke’s Bay districts was celebrated at the meeting house of the late chief, Tamahau Maliupuku, at Papawai, Greytown. The contracting parties were Air Walter Gillies, grandson of Air and Airs J. Gillies of. Waimarama, Hastings, and Miss Taraipine Manihera, daughter of the Bev. Hector and Airs Manihera, of Papawai, Greytown. Alisses Te Here Manihera. and Alona Gertrude Te Whaiti were bridesmaids. The flower girl was Aliss Ethel Rewi. Air Ama Turei was best man.
