LOWER HUTT FIRE.

TWO FIREMEN IN HOSPITAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON, Monday. A ten-roomed wooden residence, owned and occupied by Mr H. G. Rutter, 60 Waterloo Road, Lower Hutt, with its contents, was totally destroyed by fire early this morning. As a consequence of the fire Superintendent T. W. Slinn, the celebration of whose twenty-five years of service was lield. last week, and Assistant-Stationkeeper J. Hutton are at present inmates of the Wellington Hospital. When the brigade arrived the fire was confined to the study, but the house was filled with smoke. After getting out the leads ofhose Superintendent Slinn and Fireman Hutton entered the study, but were soon in difficulties with the smoke. Superintendent Slinn was totally overcome and became unconscious before he was rescued, while Fireman Hutton was little better. Supt. Slinn was badly burnt as well as suffocated. Both men are in hospital.
