ADDRESSES TO FARMERS

VALUE OF ENSILAGE. The field officers of the Department of Agriculture (Messrs Hubbard, Hankin and Freeman) addressed a meeting of farmers at Mauriceville last evening. The meeting was held under the auspices of the local Co-operative Dairy Company, and was presided over by Mr H. Myers, one of the company directors. The subjects of the proper feeding of calves and pigs, the uses of sodium chlorate for noxious weeds control, and the making of ensilage, were dealt with. In dealing with the latter subject, the value of ensilage as an economical and efficient winter feed for sheep was stressed. Lantern slides depicting sheep being fed on ensilage were shown, and these demonstrated in a most convincing manner how eager sheep become for this type of fodder. After answering several questions, the officers were accorded a hearty vote of thanks for their addresses.
