GANGSTER WAR.

HOSPITAL GUARDED. THREAT TO BOMB BUILDING. NEW YORK, Saturday. The police placed a heavy guard about the Polyclinic Hospital, following a tip that the institution would be bombed' unless Diamond, the wounded gangster, were removed from it. Although the police believe the threat to be from a mere crank, they are taking no chances, due to the continued reports that the gangster’s enemies are resolved to finish him off as soon, as possible. Diamond is showing surprising vitality. In addition to four bullet wounds it was proved he had been kicked and manhandled. He has ribs broken and an arm paralysed, in addition to which he is suffering from tuberculosis and intestinal disorder. Nevertheless, the detective guarding his bedside stated: — “He will be walking out of here on one hand soon.” The police have made little progress in discovering his attackers. They are uncovering an increasingly wide cariety of criminal activities in which “Legs” has been implicated for years, troubled only by rival gangsters. (Jack “Legs” Diamond was shot in a New, York hotel a-week ago, and was so seriously injured that lie was not expected to recover. It is supposed that some of his gangland rivals were responsible for the shooting.)
