ARMED BURGLAR.
POLICEMAN SHOT AT. EXEMPLARY SENTENCE. LONDON, Saturday. In contradistinction to the treatment beter out in America to gunmen is the .sentence of ten years’ penal servitude on Arthur John Cox (28), for shooting at a policeman. A Avoman, hearing a noise in the house, summoned the police. When discovered, Cox said: “Stop, or I’ll fire.” The officer gave chase, and Cox fired three shots fruitlessly. The officer pursued Cox and overpoAvered him. In imposing the sentence, the judge said: “I trust the sentence will deter others in England from carrying revolvers in the pursuit of burglary.”
