CRICKET.
GAME IN WELLINGTON. (By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON, Sunday. From all aspects, the opening day of the cricket season in Wellington on Saturday was successful. In the senior games some exceptionally good performances were put up, both in batting and bowling, and while most of the first innings scores are nothing out of the ordinary, most of them include exceptionally creditable individual totals, as is shown in the batting and bowling tables compiled from the afternoon’s performances. Midland, Old Boys, University- and Hutt all .batted first in their respective matches. When stumps were drawn, Hutt’s score stood at 310, which included a splendid 144 by McGirr. Wellington has started its first innings in reply to Midland’s effort of 216; Kilbirnie has replied with one wicket for 61 to Old Boys’ first strike of 200, and Petone has lost one wicket for 39 in its reply to Varsity’s first innings of 148.
