RAILWAY FATALITY.
engine driver killed.
(Received Monday, 9.30 a.m.)
PERTH, This Day.
Leaving the rails between Wongan Hills and Northam a railway engine turned over, throwing the fireman 40 feet away and burying the driver in mud and sand. The trucks following telescoped and piled themselves into a mass of tangled wreckage, which caught fire and was quickly reduced to ashes and twisted iron. The lines had been affected by rain.
Help was soon forthcoming and the driver (Bailey) was released Jfut died later, having had both legs broken and his chest badly injured. The fireman (Guthrie) was also badly hurt.
