ORCHESTRAL CONCERT.
A programme of wide appeal has been drawn up for presentation by the Masterton Orchestra at St. Matthew’s Parish Hall to-morrow night, at 8 o’clock. A choice selection ; of orchestral items and several vocal numbers by local talent are included. Notable items in the orchestra’s repertoire are Plotow’s overture, “Stradella,’’ which was presented with such success at a previous concert; Ketelbey’s highly popular tone-poem, “In a Persian Market’’; von Suppe’s sparkling overture, “Pique Dame’’; the first movement of Haydn’s Symphony No. 2 in D, and selections from Rosse’s ever-popular orchestral suite, “A Merchant of Venice.’’ The Masterton West School choir will contribute two choruses, “Dripjk to Me Only’’ and “Morris Dance,’’ while the soloists, Mrs J. H. Fieldhouse and Mr Henry Jones, who are always very popular with Masterton audiences, will no doubt greatly add,to the enjoyment of the entertainment. Mr Jones will sing Schubert’s charming “Serenade’’ and Donizetti’s “Romanza,” with orchestral accompaniment.
