ALLEGED GRAFT.

MINING LEASES. COMMISSION OF ENQUIRY. BRISBANE, Concluding his address before the Mungana and Chillagoe Commission, Mr A. D. McGill, counsel for the Crown, submitted that it was beyond doubt that Mr E. G. Theodore, Federal Treasurer, had shared in the proceeds from the Mungana mines. “After the purchase by the Government of the two mines, we find that every time the ex-Premier, Mr W. McCormack, was paid his share of what might be called dividends, he paid a share to Mr Theodore, which has been traced into Mr Theodore’s account, and aproximately half of what Mr McCormack got from Mungana.” The taking of evidence has concluded, but the commission will be kept open until June 28th to enable Mr Theodore to give evidence, if he so desires.

(In the course of the enquiry it was stated that the Government paid £40,000 for the leases, and that Mr McCormack held a considerable number of shares in the ventures.)
